Stuff and Nonsense: Fake Adventures, Real Laughs

I'm a words girl. But I'm not that funny. I want to be, and I'm pretty sure I have moments, but consistently hilarious is way beyond me. That makes me a little sad.

Enter Stuff and Nonsense by James Ernest, and I think I should just quit trying. He's so funny. And he makes the game funny.

No, this game doesn't have a lot of depth. But I think I would buy it just to read the cards. Okay, maybe not. But then again, maybe.

If you don't want to deal with my humor, or you just like reading better than watching videos, you can catch my review of Stuff and Nonsense at News for Shoppers.

OTHER REVIEWERS' OPINIONS

Edo at Edo's Game Reviews says you have to get into character to really have fun with Stuff and Nonsense. Otherwise, it could get stale. I tend to agree.

Game Boy Geek Dan King calls this a "beer and pretzels" sort of game. He says not to play the game if you're playing it for strategy. It's the flavor text that makes the game.

Jesta tha Rogue says the game is "just OK." But the humor is great.

See a pattern emerging here?

FOR NEWBIES

Just play. The rulebook is well-written.

When you're introducing this to people, though, consider the crowd ... and their sense of humor. Some people won't like this game. If you read a few cards, you'll probably know who they are.

Don't try to convince them to play. Everyone will have a bad time.

KID-FRIENDLY?

I don't think I'd try it with kids. It's not hard to play, but the jokes will probably be beyond them.

That said, junior high kids would probably find this game hilarious.

But I'd probably just save it for the grown-ups.

WHAT MY HUSBAND WANTS TO DO TO THE GAME

Andrew wants to make the game shorter. He's not a words guy, and all that text gets frustrating for him.

He also ignores the flavor text and uses the title and the art on the cards to tell his story. Which is funny. To me.

WHAT I GOT WRONG (BECAUSE I NEARLY ALWAYS DO)

It's been quite awhile since I played Stuff and Nonsense the first time, so I'm having trouble remembering. I think we forgot to move Professor Elemental when we drew cards, but we figured it out pretty quickly. Because it was weird that he just sat there. And there were those numbers at the bottom of the cards.

DISCLOSURE (IN CASE YOU DIDN'T READ THE REVIEW OR WATCH THE VIDEO):

Why didn't you watch the video or read the review? What are you doing here?

Anyway, I got a review copy of Stuff and Nonsense from Cheapass Games. I wasn't required to write a positive review, and I would never tell you I thought a game was good if I didn't think it was.

And I think you should make your own decisions anyway.
